Happy New Year

2012 was a great year and the best for my business so far. I don't have any fancy charts or growth numbers to share, but I'm doing well and most importantly, I love what I'm doing.

During the year I met a ton of very nice and interesting people (including Al Gore, WTF?!) which I'm very thankful for. 2012 was awesome and I'm really looking forward to 2013. Also, I'll try to write more, for real this time.

Notification Center

With the release of Mountain Lion, Apple added a systemwide notification service called Notification Center to OS X which apps can use to inform the user of incoming messages, calendar alerts, etc.

Fortunately, though, Notification Center isn't limited to native apps, web apps can make use of it too. However, the corresponding Web Notifications API is a Working Draft and currently supported by Safari and Chrome only.

Xtrail

I have been quiet here way too long and I think it's time for an update about Xtrail, the iOS app that's keeping me busy.

Xtrail is a beautiful and elegant fitness app and I'm very happy to be working on it with Sophia from Sophiestication Software and Wolfgang from Bartelme Design.

Hello, World

Hi there. I'm Thorsten Blum and I live in Karlsruhe, Germany. I wear many different hats, but I'm currently focusing on iPhone and iPad development and have been doing so for the last two years.

I worked full-time on Things for iPhone and iPad at Cultured Code for almost 1.5 years before I decided to go indie and run my own business. I'm going to write about this adventurous journey and what I'm currently working on in more detail here soon.

In the meantime, follow me on Twitter and stay tuned for more.
